SOUND FAMILIAR?
When the past keeps showing up in the present
Some experiences don't stay in the past. You might react to a raised voice, a closed door or a partner's silence with a force that surprises you, or feel on guard in situations that are objectively safe. Sometimes it's less a memory than a feeling in your body that arrives without warning.
Many people carry the effects of trauma without ever calling it that. It might have followed a single event, like a car accident, or built up through hurt that happened over time. You don't need a label, or a single dramatic event, for your experience to matter. Trauma therapy offers a steady, respectful space to understand how the past is shaping the present, at a pace that feels safe.

ONE EVENT OR MANY
How trauma can show up
Some trauma follows a single overwhelming event, such as a motor vehicle accident.
Complex trauma describes hurtful experiences that were repeated or prolonged.
However it began, its effects can show up as:
Always on alert
Feeling constantly on guard, scanning for danger, or unable to fully relax, even when you're safe.
Big reactions
Responses that feel much bigger than the moment or situation, and hard to explain afterwards.
Shutting down
Going numb, feeling disconnected from yourself, or losing time when things feel like too much.
Trust and shame
Finding it hard to trust others or your own perceptions, and a deep sense of being fundamentally different.
RELATIONAL TRAUMA
When the hurt comes from someone close
When trauma happened inside a close relationship, with a caregiver, a family member, or a partner, it often carries its own particular weight. Our Relational Trauma page speaks to that directly.
OUR APPROACH
What trauma-informed care means in practice
"Trauma-informed" can sound like a buzzword. Here's what it means in our sessions.
SAFETY FIRST
Steadiness before depth
Before exploring painful experiences, we focus on helping you, both with your therapist and in your own body.
YOUR PACE
You're in control
You're never expected to share details before you're ready, or at all. You can pause, redirect or say no at any point.
SKILLS & STRATEGIES
Grounding and regulation
Practical skills to support regulation if things feel too intense, in sessions or between them.
Safety and Support
Individual therapy is not a crisis or emergency service. If you’re currently experiencing abuse, threats, violence, immediate concerns about your safety or thoughts of suicide, please call 911 in an emergency or connect with an appropriate crisis service. You can also find crisis lines and other community supports in our community Resource Guide.
